The Unified Transition Theory by Glenn Olien

“Revealing the underlying structure of change”

The Unified Transition Theory proposes the human potential for change can be represented by a fractal object of 33 parts."

Fractals

A fractal object is made up of parts having a similar structure to the whole object. The parts of parts also have a similar structure to each other as well as the whole object. Each ‘master’ chart contains parts associated to other ‘master’ charts from within the original.

To get a visual idea of this, go to the Employment chart. Within this chart is a ‘part’ called “Health.” This ‘part’ has a similar structure to the Employment chart. This can be seen by viewing the Health chart. Within the Health chart is the family part. This can be seen by viewing the Family chart. The “age” part has the Youth and Retirement charts. The Employer part has the Corporate and Self-Employment charts.

Since the parts of ‘parts of parts of parts’ have similar structures, the individual parts can react with each other in many ways. A non-fractal object has a very clear cause and effect reaction. A small cause creates a small effect and a big cause creates a big effect.

An automobile is an example of a non-fractal object. When you zoom into the part of a car you do not find another car. If you zoom into a part of the car like a piston you do not find it is made up of smaller pistons. Most of nature is built on fractals. Most objects built by people are non-fractals.

The UTT fractal object has many ways to react to an effect:
· Small effects can create big changes (butterfly effect)
· Big effects can create small changes (elephant effect)
· Small effects can create small changes
· Big effects can create big changes.

The Butterfly Effect

Since each ‘part’ of the ‘parts of parts of parts’ has similar structures, small changes to one part of the structure can set up a feedback loop with the other parts. These other parts can resonate with each other and feed back to the original part and create a big change.

The Elephant Effect

Also, since each part of the ‘parts of parts of parts’ have a similar structure; large effort to bring about change can be damped out by a negative feedback loop with the other parts. These parts resist the effort and little of no change occurs. This negative feed back loop can also over power the initial effect and make the change reverse.

Limitation

You are the most complex know object in the Universe. The Unified Transition Theory Fractal is equally complex. The difference is that you can see the underlying structure of this fractal object, which gives you a new way of thinking about change. The focus of change can be shifted from changing yourself to changing your fractal structure. Doing this can give you new insights and intuitions on how to go about bringing about desired change.

The limitation of using this structure is, over time, this object generates as much complexity as your life does. The future structure of this object, like your future life, is only a potential and not a certainty. When images of the potential future are created on the chart these are images of a potential future and are not images of actual future events. The Unified Transition Theory Fractal is subject to all the complex interactions you experience when you try to bring about desired change
